Throaty rattling call Heard before seen your visit Seems just a bit late
This morning, I rose early to write and listen to the birds sing. To my surprise, I heard a sandhill crane 📖 (or two). Their distinct call is easy to identify and hear from quite a long distance.
In the early spring—March and April—I often hear and see sandhill cranes passing through. On a rare occassion, I can look out to the farmed field further north of me and see a few of them. One spring, a few years ago, I counted 37 or so Sandhill Cranes in that field.
, when I heard their call, I looked to the field. I saw two of them. I wonder what delayed their usual migration? Regardless, I’m happy for their brief visit.
