Hello Mister Blue Jay

Hello mister blue jay
Landing amongst the trees
What shall you do today
As you seek vernal leaves
Not yet ready to abud
Amidst late winter’s gripping mud

I thought you were another
As you darted behind bush
Cautious like your brother
Pausing as others above rush

Flapping sandhill cranes
With numbers once few
Comforting to know your gains
Aloft and now recovering anew
As you flap just above
This late winter’s gripping mud
